Title: Teaching Students How to Participate Using Suspense
Many class syllabi include a participation grade but students don't always know how to make a meaningful contribution to a class. Sometimes the students who are well-prepared don't contribute, while those who are most vocal are the least prepared. How can instructors encourage a broad cross-section of students to participate in class and stay on topic? This seminar will share some tips for helping students prepare, drawing students into thoughtful discussion in class and helping students stay focused during class.
